Excerpts from my audiobookThis is a three-CD audiobook of Copywriter, narrated by me. It's unabridged, except for a couple of chapters that depend too much on the graphics to make for good freestanding stories. It will last you the better part of a four-hour drive. Is the CD version just another way to make a few more bucks off the same body of work? Absolutely. I ran the math once on how much I'll make if my publisher (HotHousePress) sells out the whole first edition of 5,000 copies, and none of the bookstores returns a single copy, and you know how much I'll have made? You would never guess, so I will tell you: Eleven cents an hour. And I buy my own pencils. So sure, I hope the audiobook sells a few copies. But just as important, my career has shifted in the past few years from advertising writer to storyteller. One of my true loves is narrating. I'm a card-carrying member of AFTRA and Screen Actors Guild; and some of the funnier stories in the book are about the trade of being a voiceover. Plus, Copywriter is kind of an oral history of the industry. So it all made some sort of sense.
